Can I use my current printer for sublimation
If you have an inkjet printer (inkjet) you use for printing paper and are thinking started in the sublimation, your first intention would be to build your sublimation
printer . Why buy a new printer if you already have one? Although technically it seems possible to use your printer for sublimation, from a practical point of view it is almost impossible . And in this post we explain the reasons.
When started in sublimation, your first project would be to build your current printer and turn on your printer for sublimation . Is totally rational attempt to save costs and restructure your current machine. In fact sublimation printer is an inkjet printer designed for printing sublimation paper, which is installed sublimation inks.
However, this "adaptation" is not possible for various reasons, which we explain in detail below:
1.The cleaning of the ink lines is difficult or impossible: Before installing the ink for sublimation printer would need to clean completely the ink lines to ensure that there are no remains of the original ink and two types do not mix ink. But this is an almost impossible task, we can try to make several deep cleaning of the ink supply ducts but it is impossible to ensure that it has completely eliminated the above ink. The end result of the transferred images depends sublimation maximum purity and quality of the ink used.
2.Unavailability of color profiles : Color management for sublimation is a simple task provided you installed the corresponding color profile for your printer model and the type of ink you are using. Color profiles are created by the ink manufacturer and are provided free to the user. But manufacturers develop ink color profiles for certain models of printers. Therefore, before purchasing a printer for sublimation you should find out whether there sublimation ink for that model and if there is its color profile. There are people with much experience you can create your own color profile or directly manage, but a lot of experience and technical knowledge is needed.
3.Unavailability of CISS systems : If you are thinking of using a continuous ink system that allows you to use food dye sublimation bulk may not exist an adequate system for your current printer. The CISS continuous feed system consists of a rechargeable deposits attached to a head that is installed in place of the original cartridges. But the CISS system is not universal but develops for some models of printers.
4.Unavailability of sealed cartridges : If you are determined to use sealed cartridges ink for sublimation that ensure maximum purity of ink and long maintenance problems and clogged heads are avoided, you should know that ink cartridges for sublimation can not used interchangeably on any printer. The sublimation ink manufacturer has developed different format cartridges and capacity depending on the printer model.
For all these reasons, we always recommend buying a new inkjet printer to dedicate solely to sublimation. Currently, the prices of printers are so low , that there is a barrier to the initiation of this technique.
Therefore, you should start advise on how inkjet printers are more suitable for sublimation, check for sublimation inks for these models ( it is preferable to select a brand of high quality and prestige), ensure that there is a color profile for the model of printer and ink you want to use. Thus you will hit your decision and you will have the basic essential equipment for sublimation technique.
